Painter Andre Gisson was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1921 as Anders Gittelson. To break into the elitist world of French Impressionism, he changed his name and birthdate to become a Frenchman born in 1910, in the hopes of obtaining recognition as an early pioneer of the style. Bidding starts at $500.
